shoulder hurts when playing guitar?
my shoulder hurts when i hang my guitar on my shoulder after awhile. it sucks cause i play a few songs and it starts to ache really bad and it feels so bad when i take it off like its all stiff and stuff. i got a cushioned strap which helped cause the strap isnt digging into my shoulder anymore but then it still hurts. what should i do? is it because im not used to it?
You are holding your shoulder in a different way to start with. Then with the strap on it, it makes it feel like a ton because of the way your shoulder is to begin with. Here is one way to release the muscles in the area you are using. Do just for that side or both of them:
Movement into your neck:
(do while sitting and only look straight forward)
Place your right hand on your left shoulder taking putting the muscle there in between your fingers and thumb. Squeeze the muscle and hold that pressure. Now relax, take a deep breath and exhale and don’t tense up any part of your body. After 30 seconds, slowly lean your head to your other shoulder as far as it will go. Release the pressure but hold your head there for one minute longer.
