How are epiphone les pauls compared to gibson?

Whenever I see questions like yours I wonder if the asker is hoping that he's going to get responses that say that the Epi is just as good and with a Gibson you're just paying for the name on the headstock. But that's just not the case.
Gibsons are made in small quantities by skilled craftspersons in the United States. In general they are made with better wood, materials, electronics, fit, and finish than their Epiphone counterparts. Epis are made by factory workers in China in some nameless factory.
Epiphones, however, represent a solid value for the money. They are far less expensive than Gibsons model for model and they are good guitars in their own right. There are plenty of performing professionals who use them.
