What guitar strings do I need for my Fender Strat?
I stopped taking lessons and I haven't changed my strings in awhile and before my teacher bought em for me and i reimbursed him. But now that cant happen. I play metal, like slayer' megadeth, the misfits etc., so maybe i want steel strings over nickel or something. Let me know. Thanks.
Nickel vs steel is preference. Nickel gives a punchier, more even sound. Steel (only steel... most "nickel" strings are only nickel wound) have a wider/more messy sound (more overtones, for better or worse).
Strats aren't the best metal guitar in general, tbh. They're better known for their midrange and cut... for metal, a Gibson or something with humbuckers would be preferable for a fat, warm, thick sound. That said, I have a Strat (don't play metal though) and love it. Original strats had thick gauge flatwound strings (typically 12 or 13), which I highly recommend... they sound amazing. Since the 70s people have started more and more gravitating toward light gauge roundwound strings, which are the standard. They have the advantage of being easier to bend, but flatwounds have a thicker, fuller, more exact sound. Flatwounds have less string noise than roundwounds, too, which could be good or bad depending on preference. Personally, I use 12-52 gauge DR Legend Flatwound strings and I love them.

If you don't mind using a bit of extra strength for bending (in exchange for better sound/tone and better tuning stability) or if you play in dropped tunings, the higher the gauge the better (12 or 13).
