Pickup selector switch replacement on electric guitar?
I want to buy a used Fernandes Retrorocket Electric guitar that is in good working condition, but I am concerned because the description says: "Specifically, the pickup selector switch is bent and one of the knobs is loose."
Are these things easy to fix?
I've just started playing an acoustic guitar this summer and would like to get an electric soon.
The knob probably isn't a big deal. I don't know that specific guitar. Normally there is a cover on the back that will allow access to the controls. THe knob (or pot) goes through a hole in the body and there is a nut that holds it in place. The knob itself should pull off. It may require a little help from a screwdriver. Be sure to pry evenly and use a cloth to keep the finish from getting scratched. Once the knob is off you will see the loose nut. Hold the control steady from the back and tighten the nut. The pickup selector switch is a little tougher. If it still works, I would leave it for now. If you decide to replace it it will require removing and replacing the switch. Soldering will need to be done. You may want to just take it to a shop. I would fix the both problems for the cost of the switch or switches and $25 in labor.
