Sets Rotosound
New Strings necessary?
I have an Ibanez RS800 bass I bought several months ago. I am a keyboard player to venture in the bass. The bass is in excellent condition with no wear on the sleeve. The channels look fine without visual wear on the frets, and to my inexperienced hand low they feel and play well. The question is then I need to change as they are probably the original strings that makes more than 20 years. Would the change to, say, a set of Rotosound Swing Bass 66 strings make this bass a whole new animal? BTW, piano 40 + years and for keyboard 25.
In case of doubt (about the age of strings), change them out! I'm a fan of Elixir strings for me, but pick whatever you want. Since you just propose soon in bass, you could do some testing on the next year or so before you find a channel you really like. With the guitar low, unfortunately, is a far more expensive "experimental" as a regular six-string guitar, but you will eventually find that do you like better than any other. Elixirs are there for me. It is impossible to say whether she will make an animal Ibanez 'new', but I would change the strings if you're not sure how old they are. I also think about possibly taking it to a luthier to check the positioning of the neck and all connections, switches and buttons to make sure they work their best. Doing these two things, and you have a sweet little rig bass for yourself (and probably at a decent price, because you got this bass used old!)
