Nylon string or Steel string for acoustic?Acoustic electric?
Alright. First of all, I am thinking of getting an acoustic guitar in the next month. I got a bass guitar last month and have become very interested in guitars all together. This also means that I would be new to acoustic guitars. So...this leads me to two questions.
1)Do I want nylon string or steel string? I do not want to play classical music, just acoustic versions of today's songs. I am not that worried about hurting my fingers, since i play bass. haha.
2)Should I go with an electric acoustic even though I do not plan on playing at any gigs( I think...) or anything like that? The different effects I could use with it interest me, but im guessing electric-acoustics cost a bit more money(Not including the amp)?

Steel strings definitely. Your guitar would sound too wimpy if you played rock/pop/country songs on nylon strings. The main reason for nylon strings is that it is easy on the fingernails when a classical performer plucks the strings. Also if you're a bassist then nylon strings would feel like absolutely nothing to your fingers.
As far as the acoustic electrics go I would get one. It may cost you more money but in the long run going for a solid guitar that lasts a while and can be used for more than just practice is a great money saver. You can still gig with a regular accoustic but you're dependent upon the venue's mics and you have to make sure the guitar is positioned right... the point is that if you're a pro playing at madison square garden and have teams of professionals making sure you sound great then the regular acoustic will sound wonderful. However, if you do ever decide to gig it will be at a bar somewhere and your sound team will be a twenty some guy getting paid barely minimum wage. Do you want to depend on him to get your sound out? Go with the acoustic electric for your musical futures sake.
