Great Shape

What is the value of a 1844 five dollar gold coin?, NO mint mark in great shape?

it's in great shape. and their is no mint mark.

It goes back to what you mean by "great shape" Most US coins never circulated much, they do not tone much, so will look very good. For gold coins, you really have to know how to grade precisely to get an accurate value. The price between slight wear and no wear is huge. Unless you wish to learn how to grade, I would take it to a coin club or a coin show and ask for assistance on how to grade the coin. Only then can you look up the value.

By the way, 1844 is a better date than most you see in the late 1800's and 1900's. I would not be surprise to learn it was very valuable, or at least much more valuable than the approximately quarter ounce of gold in it. You can look up values at www.pcgs.com
