Where is the metal thing screwed on with the distributor cap supposed to go?
I was replacing the distributor cap on my 1986 toyota corolla and noticed a little cylander with wires and a little metal thing attached in between my distributor cap and distributor. When I went to put the new cap on I put the metal thing back where I found it but the cap would not go on all the way. Where is the metal thing supposed to go and what does it do?
It's not the rotor. All though I see why you would think that. My description kind of made it sound like it was the rotor. It is a tiny little metal thing with two prongs that are bent that was screwed on between the cap and distributor where the screw goes to hold the cap on.
Sounds like the condenser. Just loosen the screw that holds it in place and move it around until the cap fits, then tighten the screw and fasten the cap down.
