Metal Toggle
How do I wire a double pole single throw metal toggle switch?
Im wiring a tail light on my dirt bike and need help with the switch. It doesnt tell me what the volts or amps that it can handle, Its a Cutler Hammer, I got it at a Flea Market and that the battery on the bike is a 12v battery. So thanks too any one who can help!!!
Any mechanical switch can handle 12 V. A DPST switch connects two separate terminals to teo other separate terminals. Get a few pieces of wire and test it off the bike, With the switch open, connect one side of the switch to the battery and the other side to the lamp, then connect the other side of the lamp to the battery and close the switch, If nothing gets hot, you should have no problem. Make sure you have matched the input and output terminals on one side of the switch. If nothing happens when you throw the switch, then you need to swap either the incoming or the outgoing wire to the other pole (terminal)
Check the DPST drawing at http://www.kpsec.freeuk.com/components/switch.htm to see what I mean.
