Leftover food is grow mold on it, similar to the food we eat that is getting old. But it will not cause "mold" of a fish. There are two kinds of problems with white "fuzz" on a fish, more commonly it is a bacterial infection called columnaris. This is usually that the fish have white fuzz when you see them, even though most people think it's a fungus. It is common in filthy tanks where not enough water changes are made, and very contagious. Need an antibiotic for treatment. The other is a true fungal infection, which is not as common as columnaris. While fungal infections are usually secondary infections in wounds, parasites, etc. Treatment is either a remedy fungal, or easier to heat and salt. Cories are somewhat sensitive to salt and more time for this, but can be tolerated for short periods, as is added gradually and the set temperature gradually. Here is a link that explains more about columnaris, and how to distinguish a true infection Fungal: http://www.flippersandfins.net/Flexibacter.htm.
