car stereo memory wire?

i know it needs a constant 12v on a non switch wire so can i just solder a wire from the head unit straight to the battery or wont that work if it wouldn't work were could i wire it to its getting very annoying having to set everything up every time i turn car off and what gauge wire should i use if i do it straight to battery
dw every1 i had the power wire and ignition wire the wrong way as the wires r round the wrong way like the yellow goes to the red and the red goes to yellow lol all working sweet now thanks

if you used a harness to connect your car stereo its the yellow wire. use a meter or test light to confirm that the wire is active. If the wire is not active check your fuse box and look for a blown fuse. I have ran into a few harnesses that fit onto the factory harness but the pins were in the wrong order. So just i tapped the constant 12v from the ignition harness.
